Halloween is on the horizon…bringing EEKs of joy from children and groans of anxiety from parents. It’s tough as a parent to watch your kids get handed mountains of sweets without flinching at the damage it can do to their health and teeth. The good news is that if treats are limited, and good oral hygiene is followed, dental damage can be avoided.
Let me present the 4 Golden Rules of Alligator Dental Oral Hygiene:
- Brushing – This should ideally happen soon after breakfast and immediately before bed. At both times brush, floss, spit but don’t rinse with water! You can use dental mouth rinse if you wish.
- Fluoride Toothpaste – Look at active ingredients – if the toothpaste has fluoride than it can be any color, flavor or shape.
- Limit to Mealtimes – Limit sugary snacks and drinks to meal times only. This includes juice, milk and sports & soft drinks. Water and sugar free options can fill in between.
- Regular Dental Check-ups – If you haven’t been to the dentist in 2017 NOW is the time to go! If you have been but it wasn’t recently you should have another trip planned in 2017. Remember, we are part of your team!
Following the 4 Golden Rules will solve 90% of the problems that cause cavities and keep your smile on track for total awesomeness this Halloween season!
