What does BMI have to do with healthy teeth?
At Alligator Dental our goal is to help every child have a happy and healthy life. The BMI is a good measure of a child’s risk for diseases that can occur with obesity, or being over recommended weight. Children with obesity are at extreme risk for other diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and gum disease. In fact, the number one disease in children is dental decay and the second is childhood obesity. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) provides research that many of the risk factors for dental decay and obesity are the same. The AAPD recommends that pediatric dentists should offer diet and nutrition counseling to help combat both dental disease and childhood obesity. We hope this BMI information will empower parents create healthier, happier lifestyle choices for their child and their dental health.
